30 things "The Scream" is screaming, 2 (Is This Art?)

The Scream sold recently for $119,900,000.

The average salary in the United States for a full time worker is  $41,673.83.

So in just 12 minutes, someone spent the equivalent of 2,877 years worth of the average person's salary.

On a picture.

To celebrate this demonstration that society doesn't work, I'm spending 30 days captioning The Scream:

"So Bruce Willis was dead the whole time?"

Caption 1, here.

I think we can admit that no painting is worth 120 million bucks. So what was it that the purchaser of this painting was buying? If not a painting, then what could possibly be worth so much money. Answer: That which our society prizes most: fame and celebrity. Munch's The Scream, even the inferior version just gaveled down, is the second most famous work of art on our planet, even though it doesn't deserve to be.
The price tag on this picture proves that what we worship most is fame.
