Sudden thunderstorms.

Thunderstorms roll out of nowhere in the summer -- the sky darkens, there's a rumble, and then the bottom drops out and there's crashing and lightning and pounding rain. You may get caught in it, and end up drenched to the bone and hopefully laughing about it. You may choose to stand on your porch and watch from relative dryness. You may pull the covers up over your shoulder and let the flashes lull you back to sleep. However you experience them, the out-of-nowhere/gone-to-nowhere ferocity is phenomenal.
