Watch this jerk completely refuse to help a mother with a young child. (Overthinking Commercials)

"You didn't choose to travel like this.  You've probably been a jerk your whole life.  It's ingrained in you.  But rest assured: if you can ignore that woman successfully all the way to your destination, you will then be able to convince yourself that you are a person of importance by sitting in a generic hotel lobby trying to impress that guy who now is ignoring you."

Okay, in defense of the guy (since I often find myself in the same position as I'm single and haven't reproduced), I want to remind you that us single people get hammered on property taxes that go to support schools, etc. So sometimes when we are on a vacation, it is nice to not have to be subjected to other people's children. So that commercial actually appeals to me.

However, I do see your point. It was rude not to offer a helping hand to the lady with the cute baby. I think there are two points of view here, and I know you are a father of two lovely boys and I would certainly help you out if you had your hands full.

But at the end of the day, the blessings of children that you have been graced with are not my blessings. Therefore I think that single people, given the hardships that they have to endure by living alone, should be free of the condemnation of those of you who are choosing to reproduce.

I think that's indicative of the anti-children movement in America (yes, studies are showing that America's obsessive relationships with themselves are causing a wave of child hatred), and I find it kind of sickening. Americans have this attitude that everything is about -them-, and it's so wrong, and it's why we have such a horrible reputation in the world at large.

Michael: HE DIDNT EVEN STAND UP! Whether or not you have kids, you could stand up.

Andrew: people are anti-kid. I agree. The woman's baby in that commercial isn't even acting up.

@Briane: I agreed that it was rude. But let's face it, there are people that don't say thank you when you hold the door open for them. Have you ever done that? Then you are just as rude even if it happened only one time and you forgot.

I think being ungrateful for a minor act of kindness is completely unlike refusing to stand at all to let the person into the row, all while acting as though this is the most horrible thing that could have happened to the guy.

But specifically marketing to the kind of person who would do such a thing, and making it seem as though that's acceptable AND should be rewarded is even worse. This guy is shown resenting a woman with a kid, refusing to extend her even the most minimal courtesy while sarcastically and rudely making it HARDER for her to exist... and then being given the reward (?) Of a business-class hotel. The whole idea is at best dubious and at worst a free-market justification of douchey behavior.

Well, you know, we want to make people feel better for their bad behavior so that they don't have any guilt. That's how it works. Justify justify justify!
