The Best Of Everything 100-day 100-question Star Wars Blogathon, Question 13

Despite a fine effort at Rusty to get off the starting blocks quick, it was Andrew who got the points for knowing the answer was that the Rebellion had brought the 'droids to Luke Skywalker. So Rusty gets no points but does get one of those nondescript ribbons like the kind they used to award me at wrestling matches back when I was in 4th Grade and had to be in wrestling even though I didn't like it. I never one anything, and I wasn't even good enough to get "participant," so I got a blank ribbon.

I think it was green.

Speaking of kids, I woke up this morning with a great idea for a children's book. I know it's a great idea because it came to me in my sleep as I tossed and turned all night after watching the The Thing last night on DVD, and also I've been awake for nearly 31 minutes now and I still think it's a great idea. "Inspired by nightmarish movies" and "staying power" are the hallmarks of a good children's book.

The book , which idea I will expect you not to steal, is called "B Is For Bapple," and here is how it works: It begins with A Is For Apple, and has a picture of an apple. It then goes on to say B Is For Bapple, and has a picture of a bapple. And so on, all the way to zapple.

Genius, right? I'll show them who didn't rise to the level of participant.

That's the reason for the pictures on today's post, too: The other day, on IO9, they had this article about drawings of superheroes as kids, the drawings seeming to me to be clearly inspired by Invader Zim, but still good.

So, I wondered, are there similar things for Star Wars? And of course, there are. The paintings on this post come from Josh Ferrin's Etsy store. I actually really like them. I might buy some to put up in Mr F's and Mr Bunches' room.

The only one I'm not crazy about is this:

And that's mainly because I can't tell what it is Junior Leia is supposed to have dropped, and I think it's Alderaan, which sort of transforms that image from whimsical, awww-inspiring image to "Oh my God, she dropped a world and all those people died!"

Or am I overthinking it? Either way, I just had another idea for a children's book.

Today's question, worth 11 points:

Which name of a species in the Star Wars universe was inspired by an ad-libbed line in an earlier George Lucas movie?

The standings are here.

1. You get 5 points for mentioning the Blogathon on your blog. Andrew Leon did it, so it's obviously the cool thing to do. So did Grumpy Bulldog. And Rusty Webb. Link
2. You get 50 points for referring someone: Here's how THAT works: you get someone else to enter the Blogathon. That person leaves a comment saying "[ your name here ] got me to enter this." Then THEY get 50 points, and YOU get 50 points -- and you can do this as often as you can find people to start taking part (and so can they!)

Wookies! Plead be Wookies.

I meant PLEASE be Wookies. I'm not pleading with you for anything. I mean, 11 points? It almost doesn't matter if I'd get it right. That's how I feel about the lottery, it almost isn't worth my time to bother unless the jackpot hits $150 million or so. Then I'll at least take a few minutes and consider playing. I figure an extra $150 million in my pocket and I can finally get that solid gold rocket car I've been wanting for so long. Anything less and I just don't think winning would change my lifestyle.

LOL
Actually, it is wookies! That made me laugh so hard when I saw the question, because I immediately hoped that Rusty got it. And you did!

It comes from the set of American Graffiti. But it wasn't really an ad-lib, it was something one of thr drivers said to cover for some mistake or something. Basically, in responding to the question "what happened?" he said, "I hit a wookie." Evidently, the word stuck in Lucas' head.

Wait! A solid gold rocket car? Um... Why? You'd only get to use it once, and it would probably kill you as it melted around you. If you're gonna get a rocket car, get a real rocket car, one that won't melt.

Oh, and, yeah, I do think Leia broke a planet in that picture. However, it was a hollow planet, so there couldn't have been much life on it, right?

You act like I haven't thought this through. I will install a ejection system. And yes, it will have a solid gold parachute.

WOOKIES! Now I know what Rocky felt like after he finally beat Apollo Creed. Except I'm shouting Wookies instead of Adrian.

I'd buy a solid gold house and a rocket car. Which actually in "The Simpsons Road Rage" you can find the hobo's rocket car and drive it around. It's super fun to get it at full speed and jump it off a bridge "Dukes of Hazzard" style.

I like the way you guys all elevate this blog from something simple, like "questions about Star Wars" to high-minded philosophical inquiries.

I would buy myself a solid gold house that converts to a rocket car.

Well, I think if I'm going to get anything gold, it's going to be a gold protocol droid. At least, that would be useful. Well, sort of useful. Well, they seem to have some sort of use in Star Wars, so I'm sure I could come up with something.

And I'm just choosing to ignore the golden parachute.
