The Best Of Everything 100-day 100-question Star Wars Blogathon, Question 12

Amazingly enough, the gas mined on Bespin by the Cloud City was "very funny image i like this".

Ha! Just kidding. Spam is funny. It's also 90%, on average, of all email communications. Which makes spam emails the Star Wars of email. Or something. Look, it's Friday, and I don't even want to be here, but I have the kind of job that is very difficult to call in sick to, so I'm toughing it out for you.

And that guy who's taking the deposition of one of my clients today.

And the new client coming in at 5:00 p.m.

It's only 8:52 a.m. and I'm already depressed. Let's see if we can't pick me up a bit by starting off with parts 1 and 2 of Star Wars: The Musical:

Before getting around to pointing out that Grumpy actually got the 5 points yesterday. Today's question is:

According to C-3PO, which of these was responsible for bringing C-3PO and R2D2 into Luke Skywalker's service?

A. A promise they had made.
B. The Rebellion.
C. Bad luck.
D. R2-D2's headstrong behavior.
That's worth 48 points.

Did you ever wonder, on the subject of C-3PO and R2D2, why 'droids have numbers and not names? So did I, which led me to kill time researching that, whereupon I found out that most of the 'droids in the Star Wars universe have sentience because of a computer virus. I also found out that George Lucas said 'droids do not have souls, doing so in an "early television interview." I miss the days when television interviews talked about the theological prospects of robots.

But I gave up before finding out what the rules for naming robots are, and instead looked at pseudo-artistic renderings of Dubai with Star Wars images superimposed on them:

That's from artist Delsaux Cedric, and his collection of Star Wars urban landscapes something something something commentary on reality symbolism.

That's it for today. Don't forget:

The standings are here.

1. You get 5 points for mentioning the Blogathon on your blog. Andrew Leon did it, so it's obviously the cool thing to do. So did Grumpy Bulldog. And Rusty Webb. Link
2. You get 50 points for referring someone: Here's how THAT works: you get someone else to enter the Blogathon. That person leaves a comment saying "[ your name here ] got me to enter this." Then THEY get 50 points, and YOU get 50 points -- and you can do this as often as you can find people to start taking part (and so can they!)

B. The Rebellion

I would also guess D. Too bad the question wasn't, "Who did C-3PO say R-2D2 should let win at whatever that holographic game was on the Millennium Falcon?" Then answer could have been Wookies! Or the Wookie, but close enough!

Maybe I should have read the question more carefully. I didn't see Wookies as a possibility which of course makes me think it's a trick question. I'm sure your saving the Wookie question for when it's 1 point. Another irony is that will probably be won by someone else anyway.

Sorry about work. I have to work late tonight too. My barely adequate performance and everything is needed to keep the company afloat this evening.

Managed to catch your post before leaving this morning. What a concept!
For you D answer people, and I'm doing this from memory, but the conversation went something like this:
C-3PO: With all the action we've been through, I'm surprised we're in as good condition as we are.

Luke: You know of the rebellion against the Empire?

C-3PO: That's sort of how we've come to be in your service, if you take my meaning, Sir.

Oh, and I mean to mention the blogathon in my post today (once I get home from school and finish it), but you should double check that to make sure I actually remember to do it.

I thought about that after I posted Andrew, I was just so determined to be first that I didn't let my brain catch up to the fingers. But - I was first - that gets some points, right?

Yeah, I understand the desire to be first. I just sort of checked the blogs this morning because I had a spare 5 minutes, and Briane had just posted. I was bummed to see that you beat me to it, but, then, well, you know... Not that I want you to have the wrong answer. But I want to be first! :P
